Chamonix: Behind the Scenes at J.Crew

Posted November 8th, 2008 at 2:28 pm by Leigh

J.Crew updated its homepage this morning with a behind the scenes look at the making of the new November 2 catalog.

I love looking at all the things that go on behind the scenes to get the look and feel in the holiday catalogs.  This year, J.Crew traveled to Chamonix. (Click to go to visitor’s website.)

The behind the scenes material includes:

  • A slide slow
  • An interview with the Director of Set Design, Tracy Morgan
  • An introduction to some of the models featured in the catalog
  • A recipe for fondue.

What are your thoughts on this fun part of J.Crew?

Pretty cool, will definitely check it out when I get a chance to.

Interesting. While the rest of corporate America has curtailed business travel expenses, J. Crew is flying to another continent.
At least they hired models after arriving there, instead of flying out more people. Their bottom line must not be hurting as much as gets said.

Lucy, excellent point. I hadn’t even thought of that….it would be very expensive to do a photo shoot on another continent!!! Yikes!

This campaign was shot months ago, when things wern’t quite so dire. Looking forward for that late spring 09 catalog shot in New Mexico or Texas!

Or possibly being shot in Jenna Lyons brownstone in NY!!!
J Crew is feeling the “pinch” just like all the other retailers. But it’s hard to tell with these J Crew blogs… cuz we LOVE their clothes and chat about em all the time!
