Last week, I wrote about the collaboration between J.Crew and Dulken & Derrick in the post, “Dulken & Derrick for J.Crew.”
Well, it turns out the gorgeous flower pins are already SOLD OUT!
How could this be? I never even saw the flower pins offered for sale on the website!
Now that you can no longer purchase the pins from J.Crew, you can buy them directly from Dulken & Derrick on their website. They have a “J.Crew Inspired” section. Please click the link there.

What do you mean that they’re already sold out?! J Crew sometimes infuriates me! This is so ridiculous. I called J Crew about 10 days ago asking about the pins. They told me that they would be loaded to the site shortly. Well, I checked daily and never saw any pins. Now they’re sold out? How?! ARGH! I’m glad to have purchased mine from Dulken & Derrik then. I may have to buy more afterall.

(Former retailer speaking here) J.Crew may not have ever sold the pins on the website. A couple of possible scenarios: they are trying to create a bit of buzz for when they finally do offer them OR the deal with the silk flower company fell through.

Raina,
I’m thinking that you’re likely onto something. I never once saw them on the website, though I did read on another blog that the flowers were on the site for 2 days and apparently, they sold out in the 2 days? Rumor has it that the flowers sold between $85 and $150. At that price, I don’t see how they could sell out quite so quickly. You may be on to something afterall.
On the same note, did you notice that the Dulken & Derrik website now has the J Crew Inspired Flowers titled as Special Occasions? I wonder what happened there. Hmmmm….

This is my conjecture as to what happened. J.Crew may have partnered up with Dulken & Derrick and wanted some exclusivity through the collaboration.
J.Crew could have gotten upset that Dulken & Derrick advertised a section on their website called, “J.Crew Inspired.” This would take away from J.Crew’s profits. Why would a shopper buy from J.Crew when they can buy cheaper from Dulken & Derrick.
So perhaps there was a disagreement? J.Crew cancelled their orders and Dulken & Derrick changed their section to “Special Occasions.” The link however still reads:

J.Crew Inspired is still in the URL.

Aren’t we three all Nancy Crew, I mean Drew.

Raina, you’re so funny. You made me laugh with your Nancy Crew comment.

I did enjoy the comment, too. Thanks Raina. I emailed J.Crew about the flowers. I am waiting to hear back so we shall see!

If you are interested in silk flowers, I did find a few cute ones searching around on Etsy yesterday.
Has anyone tried ordering from the Dulken & Derrick site? I wonder just how much of it is really out of stock.

Hi Christine, Karen did order the pins and will review them for the blog when she receives them.
You can read her comments here.

Do the flowers from D&D come with pins already on the back or do you have to figure that part out on your own?
October 14th, 2008 - 8:53 pm
Hi Katia, from what I understand the flowers come with pins attached already.
October 15th, 2008 - 11:28 am
Hi Katia,
I was told by Dulken & Derrik that the pins are already attached. I will know for sure tonight. I placed my order with D&D about 3 weeks ago and yesterday I received a notice from the postman that my package has arrived and that I need to pay duties on it. So I’m off to the post office after work to pay my import duties and pick up my package. I will be sure to post a review after I receive them.

Thanks for the info!
Karen, would you mind sharing (approx) how much the additional duties were on your order?

You can get flower pins from a great bridesmaid dress designer named Kathlin Argiro.
Her Magnolia Flower are gorgeous! My bridesmaids are wearing them on their dresses.
Only $25, so much cheaper than J.CREW!
