Everyone Is Designing for Michelle Obama
We all know what a frenzy Michelle Obama caused for J.Crew a few weeks ago when she wore an all J.Crew ensemble on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno.
To read about that, please click on the posts, “Michelle Obama Enjoys Her J.Crew!” and “J.Crew Updates Homepage for Michelle Obama.”
As Barack Obama’s Inauguration nears, many designers are clamoring to land the coveted opportunity to dress the new First Lady.
Jenna Lyons would love to dress Michelle Obama. She likes to think J.Crew could be a contender:
“We do chinos and T-shirts but we also do bridal so we understand about the big day … and this is the biggest coming out party in the history of the world,” Lyons says, also noting that she’s already called the brand’s best fabric vendors seeking swatches.
“I’d go with something simple, elegant, colorful — something to play up her strong shoulders and beautiful skin.”
Women’s Wear Daily featured sketches from many different designers. I have posted them below. I love most of them and would feel overwhelmed by the choices if I were Michelle Obama. Designers have even sketched out dresses for her daughters. Click here to view them.

I think most of them are pretty unrealistic, but I could totally see them On Michelle. Namely, Tracy Reese, Isaac Mizrahi, and Oscar de la Renta kid’s gowns.

Really some gorgeous options there! I especially love the DVF yellow and white stripe suit – very Jackie O.

You know, I would love to see her in those Christian lacroix designs. But since it probably should be an American designer, then Michael Kors for sure. Or maybe Reem Acra?
So glad i don’t have to decide!
