Obama Ladies Wear J.Crew to Inauguration

US Magazine reports that the ladies of the First Family all wore J.Crew to the Inauguration ceremonies this morning.

Update: April, a reader of this blog wrote J.Crew about Malia and Sasha’s coat. This is the response they wrote back.

Thank you for taking the time to write. Unfortunately, we can’t comment on any details of Michelle, Sasha or Malia Obama’s attire until later this week, however we can say we are excited about the attention this has been getting.  Some of the styles are definitely a sneak peek at what our fall 2009 collection will include. Thanks again for reaching out.

Obama Girls Wear J. Crew to Inauguration

Malia and Sasha Obama wore J. Crew [coats from the Fall 2009 line] to Tuesday’s inauguration ceremony, the clothing company announced.

Mom also wore the brand.

Michelle Obama paired her sparkling yellow-gold sheath Isabel Toledo dress with green J. Crew gloves [and green J.Crew shoes].

“This being one of the most significant days in history already makes this a momentous occasion – and seeing those beautiful girls come out in our clothes overwhelmed us with gratitude,” Jenna Lyons, senior VP of women’s design, tells Usmagazine.com. “There are no words to express the pride we feel….it was an honor and a privilege to even be considered.”

The three also wore J. Crew to Monday’s Kids’ Inaugural Concert.

Michelle has long been a fan of J. Crew.

Last October, she admitted to Jay Leno that the yellow sweater, skirt and blouse ensemble she was wearing was J. Crew.

Said Michelle, “You can get some good stuff online.”

I thought they all looked lovely, especially the girls.

  2. Meghan says:

Oh I just love it! I knew those colors screamed J.Crew on the girls! They are the little first ladies of our country now :)

  3. I’ve never seen those coats on the site and I’ve been looking for a coat for my daughter for months. I thought they both looked darling!

  4. Leigh says:

Kate, I searched for them on the site and could not find them either.

  5. Emily says:

The coats were the perfect choice for the girls! I like that all the Obama ladies were in bright monochrome ensembles. What does “Mom also wore the band” mean?

  6. Leigh says:

Hi Emily, that sentence should read, “Mom also wore the brand.”

    Sorry for the typo!

  7. Ok, if they’re Fall 09 that would explain it. I really want Sasha’s coat for my daughter. What a cute coat for a young girl.

I loved Michelle’s outfit. It was amazing how much greener the whole suit looked when she had the gloves on.

Can’t wait to see what she wears tonight!

  8. Tild says:

I thought they all looked wonderful. And Oooh! I want those olive green gloves!

Altho I think I may not be the only one…

(when I went to the J Crew site this afternoon and tried to find the olive green gloves I got a ‘Can’t do it now, maybe later’ message)

What a happy, glorious, beautiful day :)

I thought the little girls looked picture perfect ! Michelle on the other hand… not so perfect. I did not like her choice in outfit and I did not think it was appropriate for today. This was not a day to stand out , it was a day to mark history as the 44th president was inaugurated into office. I think she should have chosen something a bit more traditional for day; this was not a day for a crazy fashion statement!

  10. KT says:

No joke, I wore a yellow/golden skirt from J Crew to work yesterday. I about peed my pants when I saw Michelle Obama’s outfit! We are twins!

  11. Leigh says:

Hi KT, that is so great. Which skirt was it?

Also, if you are interested, I created this post for others who want to dress like Michelle Obama.
