Photoshop to J.Crew’s Rescue

Update: Please click the post, “Photoshop to J.Crew’s Rescue…Again” to see when J.Crew used Photoshop again. This time, a model’s body was photoshopped.

Wow. We all know about the magic and wonder of PhotoShop. I just can’t believe that it’s so obvious that J.Crew uses it to enhance their photos on their website. Look at the photos below. Notice anything different?

Yes, the pants have been photoshopped to look more fitted. Don’t be surprised when they are super loose and baggy in person.  And now, I am beginning to realize why some of the clothes don’t fit me like they do on the J.Crew models.

Wow! Where’d you get those photos? NO wonder my chinos never look as good as the ones online! (As if I looked like one of those models anyway! Shee!) LOL!

  2. kevin says:

    that’s terrible.

  3. Leigh says:

Hi Rae. Those photos are on the actual website right now! Can you believe that? I combed through some other pictures to see if there were more, but this was the only one I was able to find. Now, I know why the pants never look good on me. I always joke to my boyfriend that I wish I could walk around with clothes pinned in the back like how retailers pin the clothes on mannequins. Sadly, I can not.

This evidence at least partially explains my issues with the city-fit cadet pant in white that I ordered from final sale (which they are letting me return, thank goodness). Not only was it big for a size 4, the pant was very wide and flowy; not at all how it looked on the model in the catalog and on the website!

  5. Leigh says:

Exactly. J.Crew needs to get rid of their final sale if they are doing things like this. If I ordered these pants, I would expect them to fit nicely around the leg and not be so baggy. And these are on final sale right now on the website!

  6. Katie says:

This practice seems so dishonest! If they want the pants to fit a certain way, they should be changing things at the DESIGN level. Reason #213 to hate shopping online AND final sale.

  7. Leigh says:

Katie, I completely agree with you. I think it is so dishonest, but sadly, so many online retailing companies do it. It’s very deceiving to the consumer. I would think that it would dramatically affect the company’s bottom line. This would just lead to a significant number of returns on a certain item.
