A J.Crew blog for all.
Happy Fourth of July everyone!
As a treat, I have posted some photos of the J.Crew Mens Fall 2009 Look Book. Look for the rest of the book after the holiday weekend.
Below is another slideshow featuring a preview of Fall 2009. Thanks so much to Jamie for sending this to me. I love that this one shows a little bit of the CrewCuts Collection and more jewelry!
Are you looking forward to Fall 2009? I certainly am! Many of these pieces are gorgeous. I love the ruffle coat in photo #7 and the ikat strapless dress in photo #10.
What are your thoughts on the items?
And don’t forget to click the post, “J.Crew Hosts Private Party For Fall 2009 Preview” to read about the event J.Crew hosted to showcase the Fall Collection. Also, don’t forget to preview the April J.Crew catalog in the post, “See the April J.Crew Catalog In Its Entirety!”
A reader recently contacted me with the following comment, “Hi! I have been reading your blog for some time now. Did you know Jenna Lyons hosted a private event last night (Monday night) to show the Fall Collection? I had a great time and was wondering if you knew about it.”
To answer her question, I didn’t know about the event so I wrote back asking for more details. I especially wanted to know if she was interested in reviewing it for this blog. She wrote back and her recount of the event is below. Enjoy!
Also, please check out the clothes from the event in the slide slow above.
Jenna Lyons hosted a Fall Preview Event at the J.Crew corporate offices on Monday night. The event started at 6:30pm at their office located on the 11th floor of 770 Broadway. I arrived promptly because I wanted to make sure that I did not miss anything.
I took the elevator up and the door opened right to the offices. Someone took my coat and offered me a drink, which I politely accepted. There were already some other people there, mostly ladies with a few men here and there. Everyone looked like they stepped out of the J.Crew catalog. I didn’t know what to expect.
From where I stood, I could see a room full of mannequins all dressed up in great looking clothes, too. Jenna Lyons introduced herself, walking everyone through the Collections. She started with the Women’s Collection which was set up in one room and then moved onto the Men’s Collection which was set up in another. She told us about the inspiration for the Fall Collection and highlighted some pieces that she loved. She is much taller than I had expected, but spoke well and was fun to listen to.
After the walk-through, I headed back to the room with the Women’s Collection to get a more thorough look of all the items. Because it was such a cold night on Monday night, it didn’t feel like I was looking at a preview of the Fall Collection. I really wanted to wear some of the beautiful pieces now! I even spied the Michelle Obama skirt on a mannequin! It took everything in me not to snap photos of all the beautiful clothes. I was just trying to take as many mental photos as I could.
At the end of the night, I got my coat and was offered a white J.Crew bag. The bag was the little shopper that you receive when you buy something from the Collection store on Madison Avenue. I was told that it offered the Women’s and Men’s Look Book so we could pre-order our favorite things! I also found pictures of the clothes on Glamour.com so you can share with your readers.
On the cab ride home, I leafed through the books. It was so nice to refresh my memory. I also found a silver J.Crew box at the bottom of the bag. To my delight, I opened it to find the Pearl Cluster Necklace! It was a great night and I was so happy to be invited.

I have not been up and running very long, but the response from my readers has been great. I am so excited that everyone is finding this blog super useful.

So come on, tell me about your favorite J.Crew item of all time!
Is bright rhubarb pink or red? I love the fun color names that J.Crew uses, but like the shopper here, they can be confusing when it comes to ordering items online or through the catalog.

Open memo to the color namers at J. Crew. Please stop naming your colors after foods, flowers and other ambiguously colored items found in nature!
A few months ago I bought a sweater which appeared to be red on your website. The color was cutely named geranium, and so, I figured that sounded like something red and it looked red. It must be red.
But when it arrived in the mail, oh no, it was not red. It was not red at all. Not even close. It was pink. But not just pink. It was bright pink. So not what I was expecting or wanted, so back it went.
Well now, months later I’m still on the hunt for the perfect red sweater and I stumble across this one. I think the red one is called “bright rhubarb” but, honestly rhubarb can be any color from red to pink and all the shades in between. And then I see a skirt comes in a color of the same name, except this “bright rhubarb” looks quite pink. Ugh, I give up!
Maybe that sweater doesn’t even come in red. Or maybe it’s called “bright persimmon”…although I’m pretty sure that’s orange. But maybe not. Five minutes ago I thought the one I now think is pink was the red one. What gives? I feel like I need a J. Crew color decoder ring.
Seriously folks. Can’t we just call the red sweater RED and the pink sweater PINK. Enough with all the cutesy sounding names. I don’t want to have to call up customer service just to confirm that “bright rhubarb” is red. Stop it. Just stop it!
