The Abstract rose-print dress at J.Crew

Abstract rose-print dress, $165.00, Item 96517

So I bit the bullet this weekend and purchased the abstract-rose print dress from J.Crew.  I live next to three J.Crew stores within a 16 mile radius of each other.  When I went to the closest store and tried to find it, it was only available in a 4 and 10.  The second location did not even have the dress at all.  The sales associate tried to console me by reminding me that I would receive free shipping if I ordered it in the store from the red phone.  Finally, the third location had the dress in every size!

I was so excited so finally get to try this gorgeous dress on. I immediately picked up a 0 and a 2 and headed for the fitting rooms. The floral print of the dress is very feminine. I love the crisp cotton fabric. The print makes the dress work for evening wear, while the fabric makes it casual enough for a day time event. The dress is also fully lined with a hidden bodice that keeps everything in place. I especially love the side pockets on this dress. I found that the dress fits true to size. I brought the 2 into the fitting room, just in case I needed to size up.

I justified paying full price for this dress because I think it might be sold out in my size by the time it goes on sale. The sales associate told me the dress has been selling really well. I am surprised that my size was available!

So what goodies did you find at your J.Crew store this weekend? Have you tried on this dress?  How did you like fit and feel of if?

    Hi Leigh and everyone,

Well I am in San Francisco where there is very large J.Crew store so I had a chance to try on a lot of items so I will give some thoughts on some items for anyone who is interested. Sorry I can’t give photos…As far as the rose print dress – I think the fabric is beautiful, as is the dress, but I can’t wear that style as I am 5′8″ and a zero with no bust so can’t wear any strapless styles. I would definitely recommend it. They also have a skirt in this fabric, but inexplicably it is very long – reaches to way below my calves?!!! I don’t know who will buy this….I tried on the taffeta tie cardigan in the dream as I liked the cashmere in the pics, but agree with Leigh, it is unflattering and I live on the east coast – with the neck tie it sits way open so is sort of pointless. I think some people like the dream yarn but personally find those sweaters too thick. I tried on the new cashmere cardigans in the horizontal stripe with the sequin trim that come in a grey and black stripe but are also available in plain black and grey. I highly recommend these – MUCH nicer in person that in the photos. They are a shrunken/small fit and the sequin detail is really pretty, and they are priced at $180, vs the $300+ for some of the Collection Cashmere pieces. I also tried on the Vneck cashmere argyle sweater. This is quite a loose fit on me, but I am small so if you are more of a regular size or don’t mind a loose sweater, they are really nice too, and the V is not too deep. OK to the shoes :) I ordered the Spectator Peep Toe Mary Janes in the Dusty Rose – this is a gorgeous color -all 3 colors were in the store. The charcoal grey is also very nice although the stitching is less distinct than in the photos if you want that look. Most importantly, the Ember color, which to me looked like a warm brown, is NOT brown, it is Orange i.e a distinct Pumpkin color – so be aware of this – I was really glad I hadn’t ordered the Ember as when I saw it in the Lookbook and Showroom books in NYC I was going to get that color… Re the Spectator closed toes – the grey is the same as the peep toes, and the other color also looks different than the photos but is actually a very pretty almost sunflower golden yellow. So – just know if you can’t go to one of the large stores that have them, I hope these descriptions help, as they are NOT like the photos, for those 2 colors. Ok well I tried lots more stuff, and I bought some sequined Ts,the tartine cardigan in pewter, and plan to get the brushstroke rose silk taffeta belle skirt, but I hope these things help :)

My lovely UPS man just delivered this dress to me today! I LOVE it!! I’m not sure where I’m going to wear this (might have to convince the hubby to take me out to a nice dinner…). The top is a tad bit loose but I think the corset interior will keep it from slipping. I just think this dress is so chic. I think this fits TTS and is a definite keeper.

I have the abstract rose-print dress and love it! anyone have any suggestions on the type of shoe i should wear w/ it….a heel of course but should it be closed toe, open toe, closed-back, and COLOR??…etc? any suggestions?

I would do a black satin, opened toe shoe. And if doing any color, maybe orange satin just to bring out the color in the dress. I have and love this dress, too. I can’t wait to wear it to dinner this week!

    Hello,
I just bought this dress on major sale! It was marked down to $59.99 with an additional 30% off that plus an extra 15% off with my teacher ID discount. I ended up paying $35 for what was originally a $169 dress! I LOVE IT!! :) . Very classy and comfy. Anyone else have suggestions for shoes? I thought the brush strokes were black, but they are actually the color deep ink.

    Hi,

I am desperately looking for the abstract rose dress in a size 2 or 4!!! I tried to find it when it was in the store but it was never available in my size. I have checked ebay and there are only large sizes. I would be willing to pay up to $200 for one in new condition. Please respond if you have one to sell!!!

    Thank you!!!
