J.Crew and Its Inefficiencies

Posted July 21st, 2008 at 10:07 pm by Leigh
Still frustrated by not being able to order items from the new J.Crew Fall catalog, I emailed the generic email address offered on the website, contactus@jcrew.com, and vented my frustrations.  I detailed the items I wanted to purchase and specified that I wanted to use my J.Crew card.  Below is the message, I received.
Hello!  The fall collection is so beautiful!  I am glad that you found some items that you love.  Our system has not been updated to reflected the new merchandise quite yet, however I have submitted a request that your order be processed as soon as the merchandise is available for purchase.  I will be happy to use your J.Crew credit card for the purchase.  Please let me know if there is anything else I may assist you with.
So I guess the only thing I can do now is to wait for the charges to show up on my card.  From this, I will know that I am being shipped the items.  This is very inefficient and could prove to be very disappointing for me as most of the items I want are from the J.Crew Collection.

I had the same problem, but my email response was not nearly as polite and helpful. I ordered on June 28th and still haven’t received my merchandise, and the tracking number is incorrect. Their 800 customer support was polite, responsive and issued a full refund. Too bad their new web site is soo horrible. I have been a devoted customer for 20 years, but their “improved” website isn’t worth the hassle.

    Hi Michele,

I can imagine how frustrated you might be. Their site upgrade has been a disaster. I am skeptical to order items online. Luckily, I found all the items that I was interested in purchasing were all available at my local J.Crew store.

What were the items you ordered? If they are available at my local store, I can put them on hold for you. Then, you can call it and have them ship it to you. That might work better than letting the folks over at the website handle your shipment.

    Good luck,
    Leigh

They were from the clearance sale, but I appreciate your offer. Also, you should check out the outlet in Lancaster, PA. It’s probably not as convienent as the mall nearby, but it’s less than an hour drive from the mall you mention. It’s bigger than others I’ve visited, and tends to have a broader inventory. Good luck with your blog - I’ll keep an eye on it.
