    Hi Leigh!
Thank you for visiting my blog! I really enjoy yours – it’s great to have a place to talk about all things Crew.
I wanted to see if anyone else is having problems with J. Crew’s shipments. Not just the site (which is a mess – it’s down 50% of the times that I check it, which with all the discounts right now, is often)
Anywho – I placed 4 orders over the course of the last 10 days (I know, a lot, but the sales and free shipping are hard to resist). I live in Washington DC so usually shipments arrive 1-2 days after I order.
The order I placed first still hasn’t arrived and half of it was cancelled by J. Crew because they’d sold out of the sweater after the site let me purchase it. The second order arrived MISSING a piece but when I called J. Crew Customer Service to see where the missing piece was, they said they couldn’t help yet because their system hadn’t actually showed it as SHIPPED yet. They told me to call back in a few days. Then an order I placed on Sunday is apparently on the UPS truck for delivery as I type this and no word on the 4th order. Seriously, what gives? I’ve been ordering from J. Crew for 17 years (since I was 14) and NEVER has a package arrived missing an item that the packing slip says is in it. I love J. Crew, and won’t stop buying from them, but the shipping issues make me reconsider taking part in the crazy online sales. They’re clearly overwhelmed by the traffic. I’m sitting this latest free shipping promotion out as I wait (hopefully) for everything else I’ve ordered.
    Thoughts?

I would definitely contact the customer service dept at J. Crew. I’ve had bad luck recently with defective merchandise (3 different items in 3 months!) and I wrote a pleasant complaint email. They responded right away and even gave me a generous gift card! I agree that the website is horrifying to use at times, but I feel like I have no other option where I live. I hope they figure out your missing item puzzle!

  3. Leigh says:

Hi Bellwether. I have actually had missing items from two of my recent orders. The orders were both big orders. One from the TURKEY code and one from the HOHOHO code. I called up J.Crew and told them that the items were missing. I asked to have them reshipped since I was charged for them. But unfortunately, I was too late as the missing items were sold out or wait listed until January. I was really upset and I got were refunds. I am happy I got my money back, but I was very disappointed that I don’t have items I got great deals on. I would very persistent and call again. This time, you should ask to speak with a supervisor. I am also super nice, which I am anyway, when I call. I find they are more willing to help when you are understanding of what they are dealing with on their end.

DrKornea, I am so sorry to hear about your defective merchandise. But I am really glad that J.Crew responded promptly and in an appropriate manner. How generous was your gift card?

  4. Bellwether says:

Thank you for the advice – I just tried calling them again about the missing piece and they asked that I call back on Friday because their system still says it hasn’t shipped. We shall see… I really hope it just shows up in another shipment.
Leigh, I think you bring up a good point – Be Nice! I was definitely nice – it’s not the fault of the person I’m talking to that something wasn’t in there. Besides, it’s not worth getting angry about a $32 turtleneck. Being nice gets you MUCH farther in life. A lot of people forget that.

    Hi Leigh-

Just visited my J.Crew on the island store in Honolulu and my favorite SA told me that tomorrow it’s 20% the entire store!!! Great way to pick up on the new resort pieces and jewelry! Just wanted to let you know…

    Aloha!

  6. Leigh says:

JCrew Hawaii! Thanks so much for sharing! I am going to call my local stores first thing tomorrow and see if they have that promotion, too. What resort items are thinking about?

  7. Linn says:

    Leigh,
That is tacky to ask how much the person’s gift card was. I also think it was tacky that you mentioned keeping the charm bracelet that you declared was a much needed gift for your sister. Yeah, it is your item and you can do with it what you like but Ms. Manners is saying, “Tacky.” Just keep it to yourself…

  8. Leigh says:

Good morning Linn, I am sorry if I have offended you. I only asked about her gift card because I wanted to know how much J.Crew thought our troubles were worth.

Also, about the storybook charm bracelet, I mentioned that I might keep it for myself because it goes to show how beautiful the bracelet is in real life. Now, I understand why my sister was lusting after it.

This blog is about sharing any ideas and opinions. While you may have considered my comments tacky, I wanted to be honest. Thanks!

  9. Linn says:

Well, you were actually wearing it so, personally, I have never worn a gift I am going to give away…but to each his own…sometimes honesty is not the best policy.

  10. Leigh says:

Hi Linn! I usually do not wear gifts, but jewelry is fun to try on. Whenever I buy jewelry as gifts, I try to them on to see the fit and how it might work in the receipient’s lifestyle and wardrobe.

To each his own! Thanks for commenting!

  11. anon says:

gosh, Linn, your comments are also quite tacky. do you realize that? I rarely comment in this blog, nor my view toward JCrew always align with Leigh’s. But seriously, I couldn’t just pass it by this time.

Besides, even though I do not have a sister, what’s such a big deal if one’s own sister tries on jewelry first? I would have not minded it at all, between family members!

  12. jcrew hawaii says:

Please leave our dear Leigh alone…

  13. Linn says:

Anon– Asking someone the amount of their gift card is tacky. No other way around that one. So my comment was not tacky. Just obviously correct!

Also, begging for help to find jewelry for a gift and then keeping it is also tacky. Like I said. She can do what she wants with it. It is her bracelet and her website but I am also free to comment on the way her remarks left me feeling.

JINGLE is no longer working. Sad…

  15. Aasha says:

Although there are no discounts now :( (except free ship ICD-49 min $150 but will not arrice till after Xmas of course), they did load some more sizes of things on the site – I finally got the berry trim astrid in a zero in the Charcoal, and also the Penelope MJ shoes in the blue patent/gold that have been sold out for ages in my Sz 8 and that color.

So – if anyone wants the Astrid berry trim jacket, a little while ago there were more sizes and colors vs it being sold out. Also, at least these things aren’t Final Sale so you can return if it appears cheaper later on or in a store w extra discounts.

Don’t know if anyone will read this but thought I’d post the info.

  16. anon says:

    Linn,

I don’t find any of what you found about Leigh particularly tacky. I also don’t see why asking about the amount of gift card is such a big deal.

But if you really found them tacky, you could have sent Leigh a personal email about it, so that you don’t have to bother people like myself, who have different point of view. I found your comments are incredibly tacky, and I am deeply bothered by you. I wish I didn’t have to see nasty comments like yours, because it really makes the world look gloomier than it should be.

What are you Linn, a priest? Who has to stand up and preach people as you come across? I think you need to correct yourself to begin with. You are a sad, sad person and you don’t even seem to realize why your comments are tacky.
