The J.Crew Havona Tank

The Havona Tank from J.Crew

Havona Tank, $128.00, Item 12966

In the post, “My Favorite J.Crew Spring Looks,” I wrote about how I was excited to order the Havona Tank. When the tank became available for purchase, I ordered the size 0 and 2 with the free shipping code. I usually order both sizes in J.Crew because the sizing is not always consistent.

When the UPS box arrived last Friday, I was so excited to open it. The tanks were each wrapped in plastic. I opened the size 0, removed the tissue paper and was immediately disappointed.

The “extra-light whisper organza” fabric of the Havona Tank as it is described on the J.Crew website is completely sheer and see through. For this price point, I definitely expected it to be lined.

The picture below depicts the sheerness of the fabric. Here, I placed the plastic packaging under the tank. You can see right through the tank and read the text on the packaging!

The flower on the neck of this tank is also very heavy and just flops around. I would have liked it for it to be removable.

I am sorry to say that as much as I love the concept of this tank, it will be returned.

Have you purchased the Havona Tank? Are you considering it? Does the sheerness of the fabric change things for you?

i had admired this piece as well, especially for the collar.
such a disappointment that it’s not lined.

I am totally with you – at the price, it should have been lined. Never mind the neckline, which makes it very difficult to wear something underneath. I loved this tank on the site, but definitely won’t be ordering it. Thanks for saving me a buy/return cycle!

You sooo saved me the trouble…sheer is fine if you can wear something under it, but that is pretty tough with the design of this. Bummer…I was excited to order this one!!

Definitely should have been lined, especially with the heavy neck piece and heavy price!

How do they expect it to be worn? With a white tank underneath? That wouldn’t look right.

No, with a nude strapless bra.

So sad! I don’t blame you for returning it. You shouldn’t have to wear a bodysuit under every tank, especially in warm weather.

I agree it’s too sheer for everyday wear. I would not feel comfortable walking down the street in this with only a nude bra. It should have been made with a beautiful lining. It’s too bad, it’s a beautiful top. I’d love it if it wasn’t so sheer.

I totally agree that it should have been lined (esp given the price). I love love love J Crew design but sometimes I feel like there is something missing in the execution, i.e. fabric that is not substantive, unlined items, etc. I wonder if given the recession they are trying to target a certain price point and as a result some things are slipping.
