The Platinum Tweed Sheath Dress

Platinum tweed sheath dress, $320.00, Item 96147

This past weekend, I wrote about many sold out items at J.Crew in the post, “Rarities at J.Crew.” The platinum tweed sheath dress is one of those hot items.

Goodness, I looked at the dress for a second.  And now, it’s SOLD OUT!  No sizes are available to order. I contacted J.Crew customer service and they told me that a wait list is not even available for dress.

I should have known better since the metallic Jardin dress sold out so quickly, too.  This dress is so perfect for the holidays!

Did you happen to snatch up this beauty?  If so, what are your thoughts?

(You may have missed this dress in the catalog. It was hidden under a coat.)

Platinum Dress in the Catalog

That is a really pretty dress. I really like it. Interestingly, I didn’t notice it previously in the catalog or online. It could have been the price that threw me off.

Hey Karen, I missed this dress in the catalog, too. It was hidden under a coat. I added a picture of it to the post.

Hi, Leigh! I bought the dress and returned it. Here are the reasons:
    -size 4 ( I am reg.4 ) did not fit in a bust area
-size 6 fit perfectly across the waist and gathered funny in the back; almost if I had a tail on my tush. I tried to smooth it to no avail, fabric is too stiff.
-I did not like fabric. At all! It looked so pretty in a picture, but was actually very garrish looking IRL. The weave is not intricate, but rather rough.
-And , oh,boy, it was so ITCHY.
The dress is fully lined, but where it touched my neck and shoulders, it was unbearably unpleasant.
I am not sensitive type, I wear all materials with no problems ( even wools).

I really tried to make it work for me. Alas, it did not. Back it went. I am gald I ordered it though, now I know it’s not a dress for me. Otherwise, I would have wondered if I missed smth great. In this case, I did not.
    Hope it helps!
Would be nice to hear other opinions as well.

Ana, thanks for your review. After reading your opinion on the dress, I’m glad that I didn’t bother. The discomfort was a total turnoff. For some reason, I just can’t feel very sexy while scratching vigourously. LOL!

Leigh, I understand that they have a skirt in the same fabric. I wonder what that’s like? I really like the fabric itself, I like the sheen and the look but if it had to touch my skin, I don’t know if I’d like it. I should check out the skirt.

There was a skirt version, but I believe that is sold out now. I really like the fabric, too. I wonder how the coat feels.

Here is the link for the skirt.

I am disappointed by the fit of some of the specialty skirts (heavier weight, holiday fabric) at JCrew. There seem to be fit issues, and even the super-svelte models in the pictures look unflattering in some photos.
