I happened to see the Target tunic in this print last weekend…while I happened to be wearing my Alessia top! It was a little surreal, although the trip on the J.Crew version was much nicer and the print didn’t have the huge chunks of blue. But for the price, the Target tunic and skirt are not bad.

Interestingly, I saw someone on the street wearing a blue/white/red-orange knock-off of this print later that day. Now THAT was a bad copy! I must have missed something…since when are retailers copying J.Crew prints?

    Err…the trim, sorry.

I don’t have a problem with you pointing out the specific print that was once available at Jcrew at Target.

    Jeez.

It’s not just Target copying J.Crew styles and prints…I have the other popular print from last season, a paisley merino wool sweater (blue, green, coral, ivory) Anyway I saw the same print as a blouse and jacket advertised in Lucky Magazine under another label. Apparently the designs are not exclusive to J.Crew or the knock off manufacturer changes the style and design enough as not to infringe on the existing fabric/design copyrights. Slightly irritating!

Target copies a lot of J Crew items. This is not the first one I’ve seen. They have Merona tees out right now that use the ’slub’ fabric that I love so much at J Crew … last summer they had a knockoff of the French Terry hoodies — not in the sub fabric, but every other detail was identical — the grommets for the hoodie drawstring, the shape of the pockets, the frayed edge of the v-neck. Also, Target knocked off the Piper silk blous a few months ago (price was $29.99 each, I think); they’re all gone now and I did buy two but ended up returning them without ever trying them on. They may have been polyester or a silk/poly blend. The fabric just wasn’t something I was comfortable with but it was a dang good knockoff otherwise.

Right now in Target stores there is a knockoff of the J Crew Bria blouse — flat round buttons at the neck of a ruffled-neckline top with cutaway sleeves. How they don’t get sued for some kind of infringement is beyond me. I knew instantly that that’s what it was. I love a good deal from target as much as anyone but it seems wrong that they can up and knock off their stuff like this, even if it is lagging by a year or so.
