Timex Military Watch™ for J.Crew

Timex military watch™, $150.00, Item 10884

Inspired by military watches from the 1940s, Timex reached deep into their archives to create this handsome timepiece just for us. A fusion of traditional elements and modern materials, the dial features a bold, distinctive font and a sharply contrasting bright red second hand. Stainless steel watch case with luminescent hands that glow in the dark so you’ll always know what time it is. Nylon strap. 50M water resistant. Diameter of watch case: 1 1/2″. Five-year battery life. Import. Timex is a registered trademark of Timex Group USA, Inc.

Here is another collaboration between a well-known brand and J.Crew. Earlier this year, J.Crew debuted Rolex watches on its website.  This time, Timex created an exclusive military watch for J.Crew.  At $150, this watch is very nicely priced.

I am considering it as a gift for my boyfriend. I think it has a great look and feel.  Would you consider this for the special man in your life?

Timex watches are great — reliable, classic, upretentious. They are the true “workhorses” of the watch world. However, i think this one is very overpriced, especially for a Timex. If you browse the men’s section on the Timex website, you’ll find hundreds of different styles of men’s watches, most of which are under $100. There is even one called “camp” for $35 that looks very much like this one. This looks like a cool watch, but I wouldn’t pay $150 for it.

Sally, I agree with you completely. Thanks for having the guts to say what I felt–exactly. LOVE Timex too but this is WAY overpriced. In fact, my husband has the “camp” style watch you mentioned and he did not pay $100+ for it!

  3. N. says:

My husband loves this style of watch and we found a number of companies are making this but if you really want a watch that is that style you can find an original on Ebay for less than what JCREW is asking. Don’t get me wrong I love JCREW but I wouldn’t buy this.

$150 for a quartz watch? No way! There are dudes down on Canal St. selling “Rolex” with a quartz movement for $10 :) ) If they are going to do a homage, at least put in a mechanical winding movement. I can understand having to use luminova and not tritium on the dial due to current rules, but QUARTZ? Puleeeeze … Also, as others noted, when one can pick up a *real* vintage Timex or Hamilton or Benrus mechanical military watch for < $100 online and in vintage watch shops, it’s hard to justify $150 for a quartz imitation.

    I bought it.
You didn’t mention the interchangeable bands for sale with it. Worth the money… & the compliments.

  6. Leigh says:

    Good morning Barrett,

Thanks for contacting me about your watch. I actually did not know about the interchangeable bands. Would you be interested in writing a review of it for my blog?

I would love to feature it. You can write about your likes and dislikes of the watch, maybe what drew you to it, too. It would be great to include some photos.

Please let me know if you are interested.

    Cheers,
    Leigh

just got this watch for my birthday. i will have to let it be known what kind of response i get when i start wearing it…if i start wearing it that is!

This is a lovely watch. I can see how someone might think it expensive as a base visceral response, but those who object to the price probably don’t understand retail pricing. It’s not priced at $150 because J Crew or Timex are that into profiteering. At a store where men’s jeans cost $85, it would be odd to pay $40 for your watch. It’s priced at $150 because, in fact, that is the only way to sell it through J Crew and make any sense. I don’t mind that it’s a quartz. It’s a reproduction. Reproductions are firstly modern articles, with homage to something from the past and will always ‘fall short’ of being identical to the original if that is your yardstick. Timex watches with steel cases were extremely rare in that era. Would anyone complain about the stainless steel case of the J Crew Timex, and wish for cheap chrome plate? Like many posters have suggested, if you want an original you can buy one quite easily. Still that’s not a reason to whinge about the J Crew Timex. Maybe I don’t want a radium-laced 1940’s wristwatch. Maybe I’m actually happy paying more for this Timex than a Hamilton for 1940, is that a crime? If you like it you can like it. Let people enjoy what they enjoy. If you want to see some more photos of this, see the site linked.

I’ve purchased the watch and it’s awesome. But I have a bone to pick with J. Crew’s shoddy selection of tacky chinese aftermarket band’s to go with this American Classic. The original black band that comes with the watch is great, stainless steel hardward and a nice supple band. The aftermarket bands are junk. I think the hardware might even be plastic that looks like chrome. Not typically disappointed by J. Crew’s products but cheaping out here and selling these aftermarket bands for $20 a pop, pissed me off a little.

Oh no! I’ve been eyeing this watch and it seems to be sold out! Do you think they’ll get more in?

  11. AD says:

So my wife gave me the J.Crew Timex watch and quite honestly I’m having trouble with the band fitting. It doesn’t seem adjustable? Any tips?

  12. John says:

I recieved the Timex Military Watch from J.Crew for my birthday and I have treasured this item ever since. What the picture does not show is that it actually has some weight to it! Holding it in your hand, it feels like an authentic and valuable timepiece. Very sturdy. My brother owns the camp watch and functionally, it works just as well, but it’s very light weight and feels a little cheap. $150 is a steep price for this watch though. I don’t know if it is worth that much, but it is definitely a great watch. It goes with just about any outfit I wear. While you can switch the band color to other solids and stripes, I think they look a little off. I prefer the monochromatic black strap.

  13. Lauren says:

I love this watch! I bought it for my mom and after seeing it on her I had to buy one for myself. The face is large on my wrist, but that’s what makes it perfect. I also bought a few of the colored bands and they look great with any outfit. This watch goes with anything, dressed up or dressed down.
