My Email to J.Crew’s Mickey Drexler

Posted August 29th, 2008 at 12:29 pm by Leigh

A few weeks ago, I wrote to Mickey Drexler, who we all know is the CEO of J.Crew. He did write back and was very pleasant and genuine. I will post his response after the weekend.  Happy Labor Day weekend, everyone!

Below is my message.

Hello Mr. Drexler,

My name is Leigh and I am the blogger behind the website, JCrewAholics.com.  I absolutely adore J.Crew.  As a recent college graduate who studied public and corporate communications, I started this blog so that other avid J.Crew lovers out there have a place to come and discuss all things J.Crew.

My blog is relatively new to the blogosphere but I already have readers that span across the United States and many from parts of South America, Europe and Asia.  To me, this is all very exciting!  I love that there are JCrewAholics all over the world.  We love everything and anything J.Crew.

Recently, my readers have been using the blog to discuss the difficulties they have experienced while shopping JCrew.com during the upgrade that has been going on this summer.   Though they are frustrated, they remain loyal and are waiting for J.Crew to return to a state of normalcy where they can shop with the peace of mind they once had before.  Many are excited about the Fall Collection, but are hesitant to shop after experiencing delays in shipment or learning that their order was canceled to due to the inavailability of merchandise.  With that said, when can J.Crew fans expect the upgrade period to be completed?

We even started a thread about some suggestions for J.Crew which can be found here.  I am even running a giveaway for a $50 gift card to J.Crew for my readers.  Though it is not much, the giveaway (which is not sponsored by J.Crew, but by me) has lifted the spirits of many of my readers.

Also, many of the JCrewAholics have been following your work throughout your career.  They feel a close bond to the company and the work that you do.  It is a healthy relationship where we, JCrewAholics, believe that J.Crew cares about our best interest as loyal customers.

To perpetuate this bond, I wanted to suggest that you use the micro-blogging site Twitter.  To learn more about Twitter, click here for a brief tutorial.  Twitter is a social and marketing phenomenon that allows users to follow other users and read their updates.  The only CEO I know that is currently using this site is Tony Hsieh, CEO of Zappos.  His Twitter can be found here.  He writes about his daily activities and provides fun updates about the ongoings of Zappos.  Many people communicate with him directly using this platform.  It’s another way to provide great customer service to loyal shoppers.

Please let me know if you do join so that I can tell my fellow JCrewAholics.  Thank you for your time.  I look forward to hearing back from you.

Cheers,
Leigh

Kudos, Leigh! Your email pivots toward the positive and asks the question we all want answered: When will the upgrade be complete?!

There’s so much more to look forward to regarding J.Crew’s collections so I’m really curious as to whether “Mickey D” will use Twitter. Great idea to provide him the site info and encourage his participation!

That’s a great letter, Leigh! So professionally well written! I do hope you get a response from him. I really AM excited for every season they come out with. Like what a manager at my local B&M said, they’re just advancing to a little more sophisticated taste, more classic, which is what I’m all about! =)

That is a very well-written letter, Leigh! I love how you suggested that Mickey use Twitter. I haven’t hopped on the Twitter bandwagon yet, but it sounds like an awesome idea.

BTW, thanks for linking my blog! And you’re welcome for linking to yours. It is well done; keep up the good work!
