Over at Mimi Magazine, Mimi writes about the new ringspun cotton painted-graphic tee from J.Crew. She writes:
J Crew’s new arrivals for the spring season include a ringspun cotton painted graphic t-shirt with the Swahili words “Safari Njema,” which translates to “Safe Travels” printed on the front.
The t-shirt retails for $39.50 and comes in champagne and honey brown. Perhaps this means we’ll be seeing more afri-chic designs for the spring season!
I love that she told us what Safari Njema means. The other version of the shirt, featured in blade green says, “Bon Voyage.” I think we all know what that means in French.

Thanks for the translation. I kept staring at that tee the other night in the catalog trying to see if there were other letters hidden in the folds that would make it comprehensible.
I thought I was just too unhip to know what it meant!

I have heard that when a cardigan is worn over the safari t-shirt in just the right way, it looks like it says FART. My kids would love that, but I’ll have to pass!

Hi there! Thanks for visiting my site recently. I received my J.crew catalog yesterday and have been waiting for the right moment to devour it slowly page by page. I LOVE that shirt and have picked out my flip flops for the upcoming season. I also love the Starfish bikini. Just the motivation I needed to keep up with staying in shape.

I’m actually not a big fan of the shirt…and I love (and own) almost ALL of their tees!
My boyfriend likes it thought so I might just get it when it goes on sale… hahaha!

So nice to have the translation, thanks! But I think I may be to get the Bon Voyage version – that green is just screaming white jeans to me.

Sally, if anyone buys this shirt, I hope they wear a cardigan very carefully over this tee.
Christine, this would be a fun tee to wear. I think a lot of people would stop to ask what it means.
Cassie, I would be interested to see if they do bring back some safari themed jewelry. I know J.Crew had jewelry with giraffes in the past and right now, there is a necklace with an elephant on it.

I like the t-shirt, and I like that J.Crew is stepping outside of the box and highlighting other less common languages.
