Hey Leigh, I saw this is my local paper this morning and thought of your blog – the connection to J Crew is tenuous but I am excited nonetheless! Maybe this will be a GO Collection I could actually buy something from, except that it’ll probably sell out ASAP.

    Michelle Obama wears Thakoon

It’s safe to say that Thakoon Panichgul has had an unforgettable year.

First, Michelle Obama puts him on the mass-market map by wearing several of his dresses to high-profile campaign events. Then Target asks him to be its next GO International designer.

What does that mean for us? We get a little of that Michelle Obama designer style for ourselves — at a far lower price.

Thakoon’s limited-edition collection should hit Target stores Dec. 28, giving shoppers Thakoon’s contemporary spin on classic resort wear.

His look for Target is J. Crew meets Anthropologie, with a heavy-handed mix of stripes and florals — a look that’s expected to be big for spring. He was generous in using colors traditionally found at J. Crew — where he was once a merchandiser — including canary yellow, Kelly green and navy.

Then there are the trademark Thakoon floral prints in the collection, including a gathered sundress ($39.99) and a coat made of cotton canvas ($44.99).

The collection also includes bikinis in bright colors with matching tunics, short-sleeve, hip-length cardigans and a blousy A-line dress.

Prices range from $16.99 to $44.99.

Can anyone tell me what kinds of things are at the Factory Stores? Are they overstock of regular merchandise or more like some other factory outlet stores eg Gap, where there is stuff made just for Factory/Outlet stores (that is usually not so nice….). Also do they mainly have basics like wool sweaters, sleepwear, cords etc or do they have dresses, skirts, cashmere?? Thanks in advance.

I may drive up there over the holidays to check it out. I live in Tucson and this store is on the far side of Phoenix from me. I am excited to get it but it is quite a drive. I wish it were on the Tucson side of Phoenix!

Puglady, thanks so much for posting that story. I am going to post it to the blog this week.

Aasha, I have never been to a J.Crew Factory store even though there is one in PA. But because I have three regular J.Crew stores much closer to me, I have never had the incentive to visit the outlet. I know that doesn’t help you much.

Jacquelyn, if you do end up going, let me know what goodies you find. Thanks!
