J.Crew Hosts Private Party For Fall 2009 Preview
A reader recently contacted me with the following comment, “Hi! I have been reading your blog for some time now. Did you know Jenna Lyons hosted a private event last night (Monday night) to show the Fall Collection? I had a great time and was wondering if you knew about it.”
To answer her question, I didn’t know about the event so I wrote back asking for more details. I especially wanted to know if she was interested in reviewing it for this blog. She wrote back and her recount of the event is below. Enjoy!

Jenna Lyons hosted a Fall Preview Event at the J.Crew corporate offices on Monday night. The event started at 6:30pm at their office located on the 11th floor of 770 Broadway. I arrived promptly because I wanted to make sure that I did not miss anything.
I took the elevator up and the door opened right to the offices. Someone took my coat and offered me a drink, which I politely accepted. There were already some other people there, mostly ladies with a few men here and there. Everyone looked like they stepped out of the J.Crew catalog. I didn’t know what to expect.
From where I stood, I could see a room full of mannequins all dressed up in great looking clothes, too. Jenna Lyons introduced herself, walking everyone through the Collections. She started with the Women’s Collection which was set up in one room and then moved onto the Men’s Collection which was set up in another. She told us about the inspiration for the Fall Collection and highlighted some pieces that she loved. She is much taller than I had expected, but spoke well and was fun to listen to.
After the walk-through, I headed back to the room with the Women’s Collection to get a more thorough look of all the items. Because it was such a cold night on Monday night, it didn’t feel like I was looking at a preview of the Fall Collection. I really wanted to wear some of the beautiful pieces now! I even spied the Michelle Obama skirt on a mannequin! It took everything in me not to snap photos of all the beautiful clothes. I was just trying to take as many mental photos as I could.
At the end of the night, I got my coat and was offered a white J.Crew bag. The bag was the little shopper that you receive when you buy something from the Collection store on Madison Avenue. I was told that it offered the Women’s and Men’s Look Book so we could pre-order our favorite things! I also found pictures of the clothes on Glamour.com so you can share with your readers.
On the cab ride home, I leafed through the books. It was so nice to refresh my memory. I also found a silver J.Crew box at the bottom of the bag. To my delight, I opened it to find the Pearl Cluster Necklace! It was a great night and I was so happy to be invited.

I am so jealous, I wish I had been invited!
I actually contacted J. Crew via email to inquire about how people get invited to these things … the woman told me your catalog personal shopper (a personal shopper you’d have to be pretty tight with I would imagine) would likely be the one to invite you.
Now, I have used the personal shopper service once or twice, but what if I am one of those completely devoted J. Crew shoppers who just prefers not to use the personal shopping service?
Seems a little strange that some of the most dedicated fans of the brand would be left off the guest list for events like this, no?
Regardless, I completely salivated over all of the images … it’s like, we haven’t even gotten into the warm weather yet and already I have something to look forward to for fall.

After hearing about the event, I definitely wanted to go, too! But I haven’t been shopping in the stores lately, mostly online. And with my move and being all over the US, I haven’t been to just one J.Crew lately. I wonder if my personal shopper remembers what I look like.
But I am glad that Glamour had pictures for us to view. I am excited about Fall, too, but I am definitely thinking more about Summer!

I wonder if there is anyway the person who gave you this wonderful review would be willing to share the images out of the Fall Lookbook she received. I would love to be able to pre-order some of the items. Looks like I’ll be spending all of my money this Fall!!! I love everything!

I pulled that Pearl Cluster necklace out of one of our jewelry cases two days ago and absolutely fell in love! Aw, it’s so pretty.
Sounds like such a fabulous night! Definitely jealous! And, how cute is it that the look book is pink? I want one, now!

I received an invitation from Jenna but was not able to go. I was surprised to get one since I do not use a personal shopper although I do buy a lot online. Thanks for the recap, I know I would have enjoyed the event, not to mention receiving such a nice giveaway. Next time, I’m definitely going.
So excited about the fall collection. I’ve always felt their fall collection is their strongest. Their lackluster and ill-fitting spring collection this year means more money to spend for fall.

I just found this site, and I’m thrilled! I had never even heard of J. Crew growing up, but my sisters-in-law worked for J. Crew, and they always had the classiest, most interesting outfits. This fall preview looks to be no exception to that rule, and I’m already saving up money for a few key pieces. Love this website, love the store!
