J.Crew New Arrivals Not Yet Online

While visiting my local J.Crew store this weekend, I saw very many new arrivals that are not yet online.

Here are a few of the items I picked up. I only bought sweaters this weekend because every sweater was 20% off, just like the online promotion. The sale was not advertised; I actually only found out when I was paying at the register. As you can see, I definitely took advantage of this offer.

Did you pick up any fun sweaters this weekend? Did you see any new arrivals not yet online at your store?

Translucent pailette cardigan

Translucent pailette cardigan, $148.00, Item 99807

I got this great sleeveless sequin shell in both colors. I love that the sequins are only in the front of the top. The chiffon detailing at the neck and arm openings is also very delicate and feminine. This was the sweater that Jenna Lyons wore at the Holiday Party at the Collection Store last week.

I also bought the Lili ruffle-chiffon cardigan. I had a hard time deciding on which color to buy. The champagne and cerise colors are very pretty, but I finally decided on the desert brown color.

Ooooo! Cute. I love beading and sequins and ruffly things so I’m going to have to look for these pretty sweaters. What color is champagne? I’ve only seen the color online and sometimes it looks almost ivory while it looks tan in other pictures.

  2. Ann says:

My grandmother had a sweater EXACTLY like the first one you bought. I remember she wore it at the holidays on Christmas Eve and I loved playing with the disks when I was a kid!

Hi Leigh! Beautiful sweaters ~ I saw these too at the Palo Alto store yesterday, they are really exquisite IRL. I didn’t know they were still having 20% off ~ no signs. Fab to wear to parties, or anywhere really. I revd my gray cardi w/ sequins (cashmere) ~ its beautiful, so soft, gonna wear it this week w/ crest T.

  4. Kate says:

Beautiful choices!!! I love every piece you got. Thanks for sharing.

  5. jcrewjunkie says:

I love the shell w/ sequins on the front only. I remember the review of the Collections Event said that Jenna wore a cardi over her shell. Do you know which cardi it was?

  6. Aasha says:

Hi Leigh, you know I picked up the ruffle chiffon cardigan and put it down a bunch of times in the store yesterday…now if I had known ALL the sweaters were 20% off….?! But I actually decided I probably wanted more cashmere anyway. But it is very pretty. I do like the sequin shells though and yes I had noticed them the first day they were in, and that it was what Jenna had apparently worn. It is a piece I passed over on my first look at the catalog and in store, but now seeing again and your post, I think maybe will get. What is the mustard yellow color called? Is it very bright. Also is the fit very large? I tried on the sequin front tank yesterday and the XS was so large it was comical…:) Also, what is the first cardigan item number and what is it made of – I haven’t seen that one – oh and Ann, I totally get that Grandma comment – reminds me of mine too (who just passed away..:( ).
Ok well yesterday the only things I bought were the the sweet papaya Francie skirt and the serengeti silk tank from ages ago, both were sale plus extra 30. My PS said extra stuff is coming in a week. OK have a great day everyone…

  7. Ann says:

    Aasha,
Yes, my grandma that wore that sweater passed away this summer. I have two of her rings that I remember her wearing all the time and I love wearing them both and think of her lots! (one is a huge square yellow topaz and the other is a cluster ring of diamonds and rubies) I normally wear very petite jewelry b/c of my bone structure but there rings fit perfectly:) Sorry to hear about your Grandma’s passing as well.

  8. Karen says:

Leigh, those sweaters are absolutely beautiful! I particularly love the first cardigan and the Gold / Champagne colored Sequin Tank. You’re going to knock everyone dead with these pretty sweaters!
Just curious, what are the prices?

Also, I need to get some advise from everyone here. I live in Canada and I’m trying to figure out when I should go clothes shopping in Seattle. Naturally, J Crew would be at the top of my list. In your opinion, would the sales be better on Black Friday or day after Christmas? In Canada, the best sales are always after Christmas. I would love to get your opinion.

Thanks in advance for all your help! Karen

  9. jacquelyn says:

Karen, in my experience J.Crew does not have any Black Friday promotions/extra deals. However, they usually have good sales starting the day after Christmas. However, that may be different this year, but I doubt it since J.Crew seems to be lacking in a lot of the promos that other retailers are offering. I personally am holding out for just before and after the holiday to score the best deals, and if something I want sells out before then, then I look at it as me not being meant to have the item.

I have to say I do not like any of the new items. When I think of sequins I think glitzy, which to me means it is not an every day item. I also think they look like a lot of “holiday” type stuff one can get at other chain stores in the mall (Limited, Express, etc.). I applaud those who can pull off this look as part of their every day wardrobe but on me I just feel conspicuous.

So, this is a good thing for me as it means I can save some money for the spring stuff, which I get more wear out of anyway given the climate I live in. It is going to be in the low 80s all this week and I am sad because I have only been able to wear my dream tie cardi once.

  10. Ann says:

    jacquelyn,

I agree with you on the JCrew sales issues. My plan is exactly like yours.

I don’t like any of these holiday items either for the same reason. I don’t “do” sequins ever! And you are right…I look to JCrew for that something special and these don’t have that look to me. I have seen these items in duplicate at many stores; many times…or something almost exactly like them.

I am looking forward to hopefully some “wearable” holiday/winter items. I need sweaters with some thickness and garments that are more wearable on a daily basis:)

  11. Puglady says:

The big paillettes are not my favorite. I would love the sequin-trim cardi if the sequins were silver. The yellow shell isn’t the best color on me but I like the silver one quite a lot. It would be gorgeous for New Year’s Eve.

  12. Kim says:

Leigh. Your sweaters are beautiful. Are the shells low cut? I saw them in the store and I was wondering if you had to wear them w/something underneath. Also, my sales associate told me that they will be having another 20% off promotion for card holders beginning on 12/5th.

  13. anon says:

I’m sorry, that first cardigan is hideous. The fact that someone’s *grandma* wore one is a testament to that.

  14. anonymous says:

That first cardigan is absolutely atrocious. It is the cheapest looking thing I’ve ever seen. And the Lilly ruffle is cheap-looking too. Why did it look so great online? The ruffles are completely flat. And gold sequins on a grey sweater? J. Crew, I am so disappointed in you…

  15. Leigh says:

    Hi everyone,

Goodness, so many comments to respond to.

Suzi, the champagne color of the Lili cardigan is a pinkish tan. I don’t know if that makes any sense.

Ann, that is so funny about the first disk sweater. I thought it was so playful and fun so I bought it. With the right hair and make-up, I am sure that I could pull this sweater off at a holiday event. And I am sorry to hear about your grandma.

Caliglam, I am glad that you think the sweaters are beautiful, too. Clearly, my photos do not do them justice, but I wanted to post them anyway so that other readers could see what goodies J.Crew is getting into the stores.

Kate, I am glad that you like the pieces. I love sharing my new finds with the readers of this blog.

JCrewJunkie, I am not sure which cardigan Jenna wore over the sequin shell she wore. I know that she did wear the yellow version of the shell and not the tan version.

Aasha, the Lili cardigan is super cute. I also saw it in stores in the orange color and loved it. I would definitely recommend purchasing the sequin shell. It is not low cut and is a great piece to wear with jeans or black pants to a holiday event. I love the chiffon detailing at the arms. The yellow color is called honey glaze and I found that they fit true to size.

Bea, I am going to update this blog entry with the prices and item numbers of the sweaters. Thanks for asking!

Karen, I agree with Jacquelyn about J.Crew not having any Black Friday specials. I personally don’t think that many retailers do. In the last two years, I got up early to go to the King of Prussia Mall only to find that nothing was really on sale. It was just hype. I know that doesn’t really help you any. Also, I am glad you like the sweaters.

Jacquelyn, I love finding great deals, too! I am more savvy when it comes to finding and buying gifts for others. But when it comes to me, I find that I must purchase my size when I see it or I spend even more time searching for it when the size is sold out everywhere. I have learned this lesson many times.

Puglady, I just wanted to let you know that sequin shells are yellow and tan. My photos did not come out that great. Tan is pretty wearable, so you should consider it!

Kim, I am glad you like the sweaters. To answer your question, they are not low cut. I am planning on wearing mine without anything underneath. They fit pretty close to the body and I took my regular size. And thank you for the heads up on the card members discount coming up in December. I love a good discount!

Anonymous #1, I am sorry that you do not the first sweater. But I love it. It’s different and unique and will be fun to wear. With the right hair and make-up, I think I will feel very glamorous in it. I am sure our grandmothers wore many things that we wear now. Just because someone’s grandmother wore does not automatically make it ugly. I have a beautiful diamond ring my grandmother gave me and she wore it. And this piece is nowhere near ugly. Perhaps your grandmother is a different story?

Anonymous #2, the Lili cardigan is actually very pretty in real life. The chiffon is so light and airy. I love it. And those sequins on the grey sweater are not gold. They are silver. The flash on my camera does not do the sweater justice. It is very soft and cozy.

Thanks for reading and commenting on the blog everyone!

  16. Yasmine says:

Leigh: Your pieces look lovely and festive. I am not a sequin girl but am so tempted by the beige sequin top especially like the fact only one side is covered. I am trying to downsize so am not buying too much but did splurge on the cascading flower Astrid jacket in black (full price – alas but no shipping paid) and bought the Penny boucle jacket on sale for $80.00 from $228 or something. The economy is not good and JCrew and other retailers are not doing very well (Neiman/Saks/Nordstroms all down about 15 percent in sales) so I am betting there will be some good sales. Oh, I do like dressing like somethings grandmother’s wear !! One day we will all be lucky to be one..!

  17. Kim says:

Leigh. Thanks for your feedback. I think all your sweaters will look fabulous!! Wishing everyone Happy Holidays as they are just around the corner!

  18. Suzi says:

Thanks, Leigh. The color description of champagne helps.

Some grandmas have wonderful style and are spitfires. I personally love the fashion of the 40s and 50s and mix many vintage pieces with my J Crew things. People will like what they like, but I have one just like the first sweater. I wore it once to a New Year’s Eve party and it fit the festive mood of that night. Definitely fun and playful. I’m sure you will pull it off! Enjoy.

  19. Nadia says:

I love sequins and ruffles! Love. And bows. I’ll be so sad when this trend is over. I am lusting over the Lilli cardi big time, I’m thinking champagne though.

  20. Susan says:

Is it just me, but your photos disappeared from this post. I saw them on my computer at work today, but tonight they have been replaced by big blue boxes that say “Photobucket”

  21. Susan says:

Why did your photos disappear from this post? I wanted to get a good look at them tonight (saw them on the com puter from work today)…and they are gone!

  22. Leigh says:

Hi Susan. I am not sure what is going on. The pictures are still visible on my computer. Are you using FireFox or Internet Explorer?

  23. Leigh says:

Hi Susan. The pictures should now be visible. Thanks!

  24. Janna says:

Love your sweaters. If I wasn’t trying so hard to restrain my impulses, I would love the tanks!! And, actually, I love the first sweater, too. Poor grannies are getting a bad rap, huh? I mean this light-heartedly, of course.

  25. Jorda says:

I think they are all lovely….FYI…most of these are now available on the updated website. (I ordered the merino sequin tank).

  26. Ann says:

    Leigh,
Thanks for taking the time to comment on the various posts! I enjoy hearing your take on things:)

It is good that we all don’t like the same things…everything would be sold out and life would be boring:)

  27. Leanne says:

I really like all of these sweaters though I won’t be getting any this year – i have a grey sequined cashmere jcrew cardigan from several years ago and also some sequined and beaded sleeveless sweaters from previous holiday seasons. I have the herringbone sparkly camel pants and the sparkle tweed skirt from this year and those are putting me in the fall/winter sparkly spirit! (even if it is warm and balmy here in san francisco) My 4yearold daughter loves anything that has sequins or glitter and she thinks the herringbone sparkly pants aren’t sparkly *enough*

  28. Hilda says:

When I first saw the Lili ruffle-chiffon cardigan, it didn’t really trigger much of a reaction but I’m starting to like it more and more. Your desert brown looks very different than the one on the J.crew website. I’m considering getting one in cerise. I’m wondering if you remember it looking like the one on the website (ruffle and cardigan being very close in color) or if looked different IRL? TIA, Hilda

  29. Suzy says:

I am very curious about the fit of your merino sequinned shells…I looked at them at my B&M today, (all sweaters still 20% off through tomorrow here) and they looked like they ran really large! I recently downsized in sweaters at JC, have been buying one size down so far this season, and even at that, I think it looked large, and I would need to size down again! What do you think?

  30. Leigh says:

Hi Suzy. I found that ran true to size. I usually wear an XS and I bought both of these tops in an XS. They fit really close to the body so if anything, you would need to size up and not down. I hope that helps!
