J.Crew Is Having An Outerwear Sale

Outerwear Sale

J.Crew is having a sale on their coats in stores and online! Select styles are up to 30% off the original prices.

This is very exciting news for me as it has gotten quite chilly here in Philadelphia.

What outerwear styles are you coveting? Last year, I purchased three winter coats from J.Crew - a black, brown and sea salt coat.

So this year, I am going for color. So far this year, I have purchased the Greta coat in the orange houndstooth and the Felicia coat in bright rhubarb.

Double-cloth Madeline coat, $298.00, Item 99294

I really like the Madeline coat and am considering purchasing it in the bright poppy. I saw this coat in my local store over the weekend and loved it. The red is such a nice rich color. It’s not orange or pink, but a nice red. The store did not have my size and I want it with Thinsulate, or I would have purchased it.

Which coat is your favorite right now? Have you already purchased a winter coat from J.Crew? Will you be buying one this year?

    Leigh,
You had offered to send my pictures of your orange houndstooth a weekend or two ago. I did send you my email address. Hope you got it…

  3. Leigh

Hey Ann. I thought I sent those photos to you. I am resending them today. Please let me know if you do not get them. Thanks!

I’ve already purchased the Authentic Peacoat for men. Frankly, I’m not a huge fan of it. The arm sleeves were made way too wide. I’ll still be keeping it however.

I won’t be buying any coats this year, as I bought 4 (!) coats from JCrew during their sales last year!

I have a Sylvia coat in chocolate, a Lady Day coat in roasted pepper (really a rich coral), and two Gramercy pique coats, purchased at super clearance prices, in black and bright flame.

So I think I’m all set!

I am wearing and loving my Lucille coats right now (got them both on sale w/ 20% off) and they are fine. Once it gets really cold I will need something with Thinsulate to keep me warm.

I have a purple doublecloth tulip coat and a yellow (I know it has a different name for the color) lucille coat — I love them both and the Lucille’s bright color is great for walking around the city and making sure cars don’t hit me.

Anyone here if there is going to be some other promotion this weekend? The shipping codes mostly end today, the 29th… I am hoping for a 20% off :)

  9. Leigh

Kate, the last two private sales were exactly a month apart. September 12 and October 12. Perhaps one is coming November 12th? I will keep you posted. But 30% off on the outerwear is a great deal!

    Leigh,

For some reason I still did not get the pictures…I even checked my junk mail but nothing. Thank you for trying….I have no idea what went wrong?

    It should work for you!

Does anyone have the puffer jacket (from this season) hold up? Is it warm? I so want to get one but am unsure if it’s worth it since I just bought the Plaza coat with Thinsulate. Will I be better off buying a puffer coat from say, L.L. Bean? (I’m in DC; so anyone in the area - PA, MD, VA, WV can relate to the weather. ;) ) TIA!

  13. Leigh

Hi Rae. I actuallly tried on this coat last night at the store because it on promotion for $138. I was enticed because I really want a coat like this, but i put it on and it was not warm at all. It looks warmer than it actually is. I felt like I was just putting on a big scarf.

  14. Rae

LOL, Leigh! Your review really helps in making my decision. :) I just really want something I can just throw on when it’s really cold out when I’m in a big hurry and not too concerned about being stylish and whatnot. ;P

Rae, that is excactly the reason why I was considering this coat. I really like the North Face equivalent, but wasn’t willing to spend so much more if the J.Crew version could be as warm. Sadly, it is not.

  16. Rae

I’ve been looking around, and Boden has a cute equivalent (now I don’t know how warm it would be though) that’s convertible to a vest! AND also has a detachable hood! All that for $124! I also browsed through North Face’s website; they have a couple of jackets that look promising, like the Foil Thermal Jacket (I used to fence, and the jacket looks so much like a fencer’s jacket that I’m biased.). :)

Leigh, the link worked great! Thanks.

Rae, from someone who has been through IL and MN winters my “puffer” from LLBean is the warmest coat. I would highly recommend getting one from there. I have had mine for too many years to mention and people are shocked at how good it looks….they hold up and if it doesn’t even a year or two later you can return it with LL Beans guarantee.

  18. Rae

Wow, Ann! Thanks for the response…definitely going to check out LL Bean. :)

Hi Leigh, I like the look of the Madeline coat in the pink color - how do you like it and how is the fit? I bought the Tulip coat this year in the Royal Violet and still need to get it tailored so I have to admit I am a bit bummed that it - and a whole lot of things eg the taffeta A line skirt, that I just bought recently, are now on sale….but oh well. They have lots of nice coats on sale, but I think I’ll probably hold off on buying one as I want some more cashmere. I am living in all mine incl pieces I bought in last years Final sale that I just took the tags off . I love cashmere…:) BTW Very happy for you that you finally got your Chiffon Rose Tee.

  20. Aasha

Actually everyone I just read the posts about puffers - sorry! And I can recommend the long knee length puffer if it goes on sale - you know the one that last year had the grosgrain ribbon sash and this year they made with a (less pretty) nylon sash. I bought it last year and LIVED in it during some time up in Canada and it is incredibly warm!! It is really light weight which is deceptive and yet I put it on all the time when the weather was freezing and I is also quite flattering. I am too small to fit into even the smallest of LLBeans puffers. So, just my 2 cents. I am thinking of buying the Black one this year since I bought Navy last year. It looks cute with J.Crew skivvies or Cashmere leggings and snow boots if you have to run out on a snowy winter weekend…

  21. Ann

I also want to add that LLBean also has Primaloft which is a syntheic puffer filling similar to down and just as warm. I own one and it is WASHABLE and super warm:) Also good for people allegic to feathers or down:)

    RAE,

Let me know what you end up buying:) or have any questions…..Cheers:)

  22. Rae

Thanks, Aasha and Ann for the info! I did end up getting both a vest and a jacket from Eddie Bauer. ;P I tried to fit into the ones from LLBean (both the vest and jacket) and found even the XS to be too roomy to be snug and warm, like Aasha. :( (And to think, I’m usually a 10 Petite in J.Crew!)

I tried the puffers from J.Crew as well, but as much as I wanted to love, love them, they didn’t feel warm enough, unlike the Eddie Bauer ones, where I actually started sweating after a few seconds of wearing them!

I do appreciate your sharing, Leigh, Aasha and Ann! :)

Does anyone have an opinion on the madeline or the lady day? I am deciding btw the 2..any comments on fit, or photos of fit would be appreciated!
