The Elusive Ringspun Chiffon Graphic Rose Tee

Ringspun chiffon graphic tee

Ringspun chiffon graphic tee, $55.00, Item 97428

I saw the ringspun chiffon graphic tee one time in my local store.  I barely even noticed it because it was shuffled underneath  a bunch of other clothes.  I touched it, but didn’t think twice about it.

If I could go back now, I would have unfolded it, looked at it, loved it and RAN straight to the register.

Now, I am desperately longing for it! And I need some HELP to find it!

Please let me know if your local store has one in any size.  I am willing to take anything at this point. But I am just not willing to pay the exorbitant prices on eBay. :(

Leigh, the store in Canton, CT had some this past week. I bought one myself earlier last week and already got compliments on it. I would call them and have them send one to you if they have any. Good luck-

  2. Jessica

I can’t believe anyone’s paying that much on Ebay.

NYC 5th Ave at 17th Street had them this week.

  3. Chloe

I’m pretty sure I saw it in my local store this past weekend. What size are you? I’ll see if they have it next time I go in. I’ll happily pick you one up,…

  4. Sally

I was in the New Haven store today and they didn’t have any, but they did have alot of the other fancy expensive graphic tees (some with beading, some with metallic designs, some with sequins). I’ll wait ’til they get marked down, then I’ll get at least a couple. I love them all, but $55 is too much to pay for a tee!

  5. Kate

I want this tee so bad also. I am shocked at what they are selling for on ebay. I went to my local store today in Scottsdale, AZ and they did not have any left.

  6. anonymous

Leigh, has your PS called WFIFY to see if ANY store has ANY available? They can give a list of stores all over the country that show quantities available. I’m sure there is a store somewhere with 1 or 2 of these tees left!

  7. Natedac

    Hey Leigh,

We’re good to go, I have your tee! :) Look no further!

    Thanks, Audrey

  8. Leigh

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for your thoughts!

Jeanne, I called the Canton store and they were all out. :( Thanks so much for the heads up. I appreciate it.

Jessica, I called the NY stores, too and they were all sold out. They were my hope. I figured surely, NY would have it. But it turns out everyone in NY wanted them, too.

Chloe, where is your local store? I will definitely give them a call if you let me know. Thanks so much for you offer! I really do have some great readers. By the way, I love your website!

Kate, what size are you? If I come across an extra one, I will grab it for you.

Anonymous, I tried the WWFIFY service to now avail. And the customer service rep told me everyone has been calling it to do a search for the tee. She has told everyone that she’s spoken with not to get their hopes up. I can understand that. I wouldn’t want to be disappointed either.

Audrey, I am so happy to hear the news! How much will you be selling it for on eBay?

  9. Kate

Hi Leigh - Thank you so much. A Medium would be great!

  10. Leigh

    No problem, Kate!

  11. Christy

Hi All! I’m currently in Honolulu and have been searching all over for this shirt…if anyone comes across it…could you let mek now. ANY SIZE!! :) Thanks!

  12. Chloe

My store is Short Pump Towne Center in Richmond, VA. I know I saw one in there not too long ago, along with a bunch of other gorgeous tees. I totally had a spew with J.Crew after their website “makeover” and put some posts on my blog that I wouldn’t shop with them again. Yeah, that lastest all of one week!!

  13. Leigh

Good morning, Christy! Wow, it must be hard to get in Hawaii. I looked on J.Crew’s website and there are not many stores located there.

Thanks Chloe, I am going to give them a call today.

  14. Jennifer

Can’t you call J Crew and have them do a store search? That way, you don’t have to spend time calling around to the stores yourself.

  15. jacquleyn

I have this shirt in black in an XL and have worn it twice. I am seriously considering selling it, though, because I just don’t think it is me. I have machine washed it, turned inside out, in a lingerie bag on gentle cycle, and laid flat to dry and it came out of the wash just fine. It is important to note that the label says to wash or dry clean.

I paid full price and shipping for it so I have no idea what to list it for on eBay.

  16. Chloe

    Any luck yet?

  17. Christy

Nooooo! I’ve called the catalog and they don’t have any…they were able to do a store-wide search for me, and it’s sold out nationwide. Jacquleyn - are you selling yours? I saw a buy it now on Ebay for $155! OMG!

  18. Christy

Jacquleyn - did you post yours on Ebay? I think I saw it. Good luck!

  19. Leigh

Jennifer, thanks for suggestion. I called J.Crew and they have done three searches for me now. They have finally found one in a size small in the sea salt color. Apparently, this tee came in 3 colors: tan, sea salt, and black. Thanks to Karen for letting me know about that.

Jacquelyn, I am not sure what you should start your listing at. It’s a tough one to call. I have seen shirts in the $150 range. Let me know what the item number is and I will add to the eBay page of the blog. Thanks!

Chloe, J.Crew finally found me one. Thanks for asking.

Christy, I was in the same position. Call them and ask to do another search. I finally found one on the third try. I guess you really have to be persistent.

  20. jacquleyn

I did list mine with a starting bid of $9.99. Ideally i would like to recover the initial cost (paid full price, shipping, and tax) and the ebay/PayPal fees. I’m not looking to rip anyone off—I hate it when I am a bidder and the price is overinflated. However, my husband just walked in, read this, and reminded me of supply and demand, what the market will bear, and all that stuff. This is the item number: 190257625380.

  21. Christy

Jacquleyn - good luck! Enjoy it, when can you ever get 100% profit on anything?

Thanks Leigh - I will try and call again tomorrow.

  22. Aasha

Gosh - I had 2 - I should have kept the one and put it one Ebay I guess….. :)

  23. Leigh

I would have gladly taken it off your hands!

  24. Aasha

BTW if you wash it - do it by hand and don’t get the chiffon part wet - it is pretty fragile. But I do like it. I didn’t like the black one - it doesn’t have writing on it like the cream one does and when I tried it on I thought it looked like a spider… I thought I’d want the black when I saw the photo in the Showroom book but I didn’t know it would come in cream. My PS got it for me and got 20% so that made it more palatable….As I said above though, since I ended up with two it didn’t even occur to me to hang on to the second and put it on Ebay - or maybe keep it for when I spill coffee on this one (I am careful with my clothes but even then….:) Oh well. I do like all their graphic tees but $50-60 is a lot for some of them

  25. jacquelyn

Actually, the black one does have writing on it—at least mine does. And I washed it in a lingerie bag turned inside out and it came out just fine. The chiffon is no more frayed than when I first got it. I wonder if some of the black ones have writing and some do not?

  26. Leigh

Some photographs show the black version with writing on it and some photographs show it without writing. How odd.

  27. Ashley

I got the sea salt one through we will find it for you, thinking it was the champagne colored one with the rose. I was sadly disappointed. The sea salt one is basically white in color and says “Seize the Day” in white chiffon with black stitching. You can barely even tell that it says anything at all. While I like the material of the t-shirt, I am disappointed in the design. I can’t decide whether or not I will return it. I was on Final sale, however.

  28. Karen

Leigh, Ashley is right. I received my Sea Salt Ring Spun Tee today and was utterly disappointed to find out that it had the words “Seize the Day” on the front as opposed to the Rose. I immediately contacted J Crew Customer Service. I told them that I had received the wrong tee. They confirmed the item number with me and told me that I had in fact received the right item BUT…. it wasn’t the Rose Tee. You see, J Crew made a couple of different Graphic Tees, some with the rose, others with words, etc, but all with the same item number. Isn’t that not ridiculous???!!! The CSR agreed with me that she found it stupid that they would have 2 different tees with the same item number. Unfortunately, the original CSR failed to tell me that the Rose Tee came in Champagne and black. The Seize the Day tee came in Sea Salt. As a consumer, how in the world was I to know the difference? J Crew agreed.

Anyway, I’m terribly sorry for giving you the wrong info despite the fact that I got the info from the original CSR. Anyway, they are allowing me to returning the Seize The Day tee plus cover my shipping to return this item to them.

Despite the fact that I love the tee, I refuse to pay more than $55 for it. So, I’m doing without.

Ashely, if you were misinformed, you should insist that they accept the return. This is afterall J Crew’s mistake for having 2 different designs with the same item number. Ridiculous!

Sorry for being quite so emotionally charged on this one.

  29. Leigh

AHHHHH! The sea salt color is the one that the “We Will Find It Service” found for me! I thought it was the same as the champagne color. Goodness, now, I am back to square one.

Ashley, you should definitely be allowed to return that tee. It is definitely not the one that you thought you were getting.

Karen, I am sorry that you had to wait all that time and received the wrong tee! What a mess. It was right of J.Crew to allow you to return the shirt. It was definitely not the one you thought you were getting. What a mess.

This sea salt color should definitely have its own item number. It is nothing like the rose tee. J.Crew needs to really get things together.

  30. Aasha

    Leigh,

I really hope you got the tee from Audrey. I actually feel terrible. I would have gladly sold it to you for the list price (and no tax since I got it in PA). I just really didn’t even think at the time it was going to be such a sought after t shirt. I did totally love it when Lauren, my PS sent it to me. She chose it for me, and I had also bought it in the San Fran store. I do love it. I was wearing it yesterday with this GREAT (sorry - non J.Crew alert) Free People Purple Brocade Coat I just bought in Boston.

Jacquelyn (BTW - your blog is very fun, and I LOVE Anthropologie - every year I buy at least one coat and usually a dress from there. It is my other favorite store :) - anyway, I am sure you are right about washing the rose t shirt. I am just a total control freak about keeping my clothes looking like new. It is a bit sad really. I get worried if there is a snag or a single pill on them :) Sorry I am probably just too much of a scaredy cat - as we say in Australia - to put the tee in the washer….

BTW I guess the Holiday Rollout is coming in 2 weeks. I am betting there will be a lot more graphic and sequin/metallic tees then. I am curious about what the patterns and designs will be. This rose one was really a one of a kind I think and I guess went along with the Flower pins this year. I sort of wish they would do some more along these lines as well as their more usual crest type designs. Does anyone else want this too. I am guessing we do based on how much the Rose one has been a sought after item. Maybe they could just reissue it.

Oh and - sorry for long message - Leigh the black definitely did come in 2 versions, one that had writing and one that did not - the one I tried in San FFran had no writing - that was why it wasn’t so nice I think. Ok sorry to ramble on!!!

  31. jacquleyn

Let me get this straight….they have a different style tee with the same item number. Then, for one of the styles some shirts have writing, some do not. How can the customer be assured of what she is getting? Sounds like a snafu to me.

  32. Karen

Leigh, I feel just terrible for telling you the wrong thing. Are you going to be able to cancel the order? Seeing that they have the same item number for all these Graphic Tees, some with the roeses (which we simply love), some with the words “Seize the Day” and others with writing and without writing on the Roses, J Crew should be accountable and accept your cancellation / return.

J Crew is accepting my final sale return. Leigh, I hope you’ll be able to cancel your order.

Ashley, are you going to be calling J Crew and get them to accept the return of your final sale erroneous tee?

I don’t understand why J Crew would have 1 item number for all these different tees. I realize that they are all Ringspun but come on, they have different designs on them!

URGH! This entire fiasco’s got me really worked up! When the CSR told me that I got the Rose Tee in the Sea Salt, I was just beside myself and ended up puchasing a bunch of accessories to go with my tee. Now, I have these accessories and no tee. This is very upsetting!

  33. Kate

Thanks everyone for letting us know about the item number. You girls saved me from devastation when I opened the package and did not see a rose on my tee.

Karen - I am with you. I have my pearl necklace and grey cardigan all ready to go but no tee. My J Crew had a whole table of other beautiful tees I think I am going to pick out one of those. None of them are as fab as the rose tee - but they will have to do.

  34. Leigh

Karen, I haven’t talked to J.Crew yet. But the same item number for the three tees would explain why when I called J.Crew the first time, they would not do a search. The lady I spoke with was super rude and told me that it was on sale. Later, I called and spoke with someone else who told me that it was not on sale.

Now, I am deducing that the sea salt of that item number went on sale and the black and champagne (with the rose) did not go on sale.

This really is the most annoying thing to deal with. My personal shopper with most likely understand my dilemma and let me return the shirt. If not, I am writing J.Crew a very not-so-nice email.

Kate, I am glad that we could save you the devastation. My shirt has not come yet, but when it does, I will not even open the box. I am going to take it straight to my nearest J.Crew store and ask them to open it and tell me what they find. Maybe they’ll be surprised!

  35. Leigh

And Aasha, I did not end up getting the tee from Audrey because I thought I was getting one from J.Crew. Oh well. At this point, I am sure that the holiday stuff will have more exciting things for me to lust after. It was one tee. I will live. :(

  36. Ashley

Yes, Leigh, I believe we all will live! Just remember that in a few weeks this t-shirt will be a distant memory, and our lives will still be worth living :-)

  37. Kate

Hi Girls, I went in to day to get my “substitute” for the rose ringspun tee. I was actually getting pretty excited about choosing which tee to get, they had lots of great ones. Until… the SA came up in the Rose tee and rained on my parade. It is so beautiful in real life, congrats to all who go it. Anyway I ended up with the Dance etiquette one in grey. It looks really great with a cream cardigan.

  38. Aasha

    Leigh,
I don’t think this was an acceptable situation with the same order # etc. I have suggestion. What about writing a short polite but unhappy letter and we can sign as a group and you can email it to Mickey Drexler. If you don’t have time to write I am happy to then we can offer who wants to sign to. We could ask if they are willing to reissue and allow preorder, and even if he were to say that isn’t possible it would demonstrate some solidarity of loyal customers and how much of a problem and misleading it was to label the seize the day Tee as the same one. I would use your rude CS anecdote and the other of excited customer going into store to pick a different tee and seeing SA in the Rose one she wanted. It is up to you.

  39. Leigh

Aasha, I think that is a great idea! Please get started on it right away and then we can post it to the blog and ask other readers to sign it. I will then forward it to MIckey Drexler.

I also wanted to apologize for not getting back to you right away about the gift card email to MIckey. I have been so busy at work. Please include that in your email, too.

Please send me the email at leigh @ jcrewaholics .com

    Thanks Aasha!

  40. ann

Boy, you guys have been through a lot with that rose tee……so sorry to hear the craziness! But whoever said the rose tee with eventually be a distant memory is right……

  41. Stefanie

to all - i have an XS of the tan-colored ring-spun T-shirt with Rose applique, never worn, with tags, no defects. sorry to be so mercenary, but how much would you pay for it?

  42. Christy

Hi Stefanie -how much you selling it for?? :)
