I was recently contacted by Donna D., a reader from Massachusetts who happens to OWN the coveted silk organza Daphne wedding dress. In this entry where I included a preview of J.Crew wedding dresses that will be offered in Spring 2009, I also mentioned how I adored the Daphne dress. She read this and contacted me. Here is what she wrote in a comment to that entry:
What a great site! I absolutely ADORE the Daphne gown and had the good fortune to snag one before they all sold out! It is even more stunning in person and has these wonderful hidden side pockets! I have yet to wear it since the possibility exists I might elope, but I will always know this dress was the “ONE”!
I was so delighted to hear from her. I have never known anyone who owns this beautiful garment. Donna was gracious enough to forward me pictures of the dress from a bridal magazine. She also sent me the pictures from J.Crew’s website. They are featured below.
I have also asked Donna to guest blog about her experience to track down this coveted dress. Look for it soon!

I am one of the many brides in search of this rare dress! I have only six-weeks left until my wedding day, so if you have any leads on where I might uncover one, it would be so very appreciated.
August 12th, 2008 - 6:48 pm
Hi Sally! When is your wedding day? Do you already have a dress? I would be so nervous at this point, as this dress is SO rare.
August 13th, 2008 - 5:57 am
That dress top reminds me of the Emmeline blouse which was so flattering! I wish I could be a bride again!
August 13th, 2008 - 9:21 am
You’d think that with the popularity of this style they’d come out with another version of it. It is really stunning!
August 13th, 2008 - 10:21 am
Christine, I wonder why they haven’t already. I really do think that J.Crew brides would jump right on it! The dress would be SOLD OUT in minutes.
August 14th, 2008 - 8:24 pm
Sally,
I have this dress New with tags in a Size 8. It is absolutly beautiful on!
I bought this for my wedding next summer and have just found another gown that I fell in love with, its totally different but has made the decision really hard, so now must sell the J Crew.
Please let me know if you are interested. Thanks!!

Hi Ladies—-
I spoke to Lisa from Special Occasions last week regarding J.Crew’s future plans to re-release the Daphne. She told me that J.Crew is very much aware of the demand for this gown and how much brides covet it. She said that the dress was made in very limited quantities and while J.Crew will unlikely make any more, she expects J.Crew to design something similar in the future. So, let’s keep our collective fingers crossed!!
August 22nd, 2008 - 6:21 am
Wow. That’s great! I wonder how similar to the Dahpne dress the new style will be. I can’t tell what I love more about the Daphne dress: the fabric or the style.
I am sure the new dress will be expensive compared to the Daphne. It was quite a steal for J.Crew at $900.
August 23rd, 2008 - 5:13 pm
Kelly,
Do you still have this dress?? I might be interested in buying it. I just bought a dress, but maybe I can cancel my order.
August 23rd, 2008 - 6:13 pm
Sheila,
So far I still do. I do have one offer but email me if you are interested! My email is kwscarborough at hotmail.com. Thanks so much!
August 29th, 2008 - 9:57 pm
Hi Kelly! I was wondering if anyone bought your Daphne dress yet? I have been looking for one for a month now and would definitely purchase it if no one else has.
August 30th, 2008 - 8:59 am
Kerry, I would try sending Kelly a direct email. Good luck with the dress! It’s gorgeous!

September 10th, 2008 - 10:06 pm
I am in LOVE with this dress! My wedding isn’t until June 2010, so if anyone has any leads on a potential seller of this dress, please please let me know!
September 10th, 2008 - 11:44 pm
What size are you looking for, Jennifer?
September 11th, 2008 - 10:37 am
Between a 4 and 6 if possible.
September 11th, 2008 - 7:09 pm
I meant a four or a six!!
September 11th, 2008 - 7:27 pm
Hi Jennifer, if you look up at these comments, Kelly posted that she has a dress. It is a size 8 and I know that she is selling it!
September 11th, 2008 - 10:35 pm
Awesome!! Thanks!
September 17th, 2008 - 5:54 pm
I fell in love with this dress as well and was unable to find one so I had one similar made for me. It allowed me to customize, get the perfect fit, and it was CHEAPER (with fabric and all) than the J. Crew dress.
Here are pics of my wedding dress:

OMG Jamie! You look absolutley stunning! I own the Daphne dress and I wish it looked half as good as the gown you had made (no offense J. Crew!).
Quite simply, your dress embodies the holy trinity of wedding gowns : Beautiful fit, form, and function at a great price! Would you please let me know where you had your dress made? I would be happy to have Leigh give you my personal email address! Thank you again for sharing photos of your lovely wedding day with us!
September 17th, 2008 - 9:26 pm
Jamie, like Donna, said, you look stunning! Your dress is the exact replica of the Daphne. I love the fabric that you chose for it.
September 17th, 2008 - 10:03 pm
I have to agree with Leigh. The fabric is lovely. It looks like a silk satin jacquard and seems to have a heavier “hand” than silk organza (which is what the Daphne is made of). I love it and think it would be a great Fall version of the Daphne.
And the fit of the bodice, Jamie! Honestly, I am completely taken aback by the perfection; it’s impeccable and just goes to show the importance of a properly fitted gown!
Also, your pearl necklace accented the neckline of the gown beautifully—great choice, newlywed!
September 17th, 2008 - 10:28 pm
You look so beautiful!! Who made your dress? Its perfect. I agree with Donna- the pearls are to die for!
September 29th, 2008 - 9:46 pm
jaime!!! how did you have your dress made- did you find a pattern somewhere (and if so, where??) this is simply a gorgeous dress and i would really love to try to have it made
October 6th, 2008 - 9:29 pm
Well, everyone, I’m with Jaime on this - I’m also trying to have this dress made. There is a pattern in Vogue Bridal Origin, pattern number V2979 that closely resembles this very lovely dress. I’m hoping to work with this pattern, altering the skirt, adding a little puff to the sleeves, and changing the neckline so that it “pops” more. Anyways, good luck, girls!
October 7th, 2008 - 8:21 am
Ladies, I will be featuring Jamie’s story in its very own blog post. It’s nice to see that others love this dress as much as I do.
October 8th, 2008 - 8:14 am
Jamie’s story is up. It’s today’s blog entry!
October 11th, 2008 - 12:05 am
Oooh….I saw this dress and fell in love. It’s so difficult to find a dress simple and modest that doesn’t look like a nightgown. I searched all over the internet and ended up writing to jcrew and seeing if they can bring it back by popular demand. =) But if anyone has this in a 6, 8, or 10 and wants to get rid of it I wil gladly take it off their hands.
October 11th, 2008 - 1:00 pm
Sarah, I recently posted an entry about a bride who had a dress made that was like the Daphne. J.Crew could not find the dress for her so she a great seamstress make it for.
Just type “Daphne” into the search bar of the blog and the post should come up.
Perhaps you could do the same and have the dress made.
