The Coveted Daphne Wedding Gown

I was recently contacted by Donna D., a reader from Massachusetts who happens to OWN the coveted silk organza Daphne wedding dress. In this entry where I included a preview of J.Crew wedding dresses that will be offered in Spring 2009, I also mentioned how I adored the Daphne dress. She read this and contacted me. Here is what she wrote in a comment to that entry:

What a great site! I absolutely ADORE the Daphne gown and had the good fortune to snag one before they all sold out! It is even more stunning in person and has these wonderful hidden side pockets! I have yet to wear it since the possibility exists I might elope, but I will always know this dress was the “ONE”!

I was so delighted to hear from her. I have never known anyone who owns this beautiful garment. Donna was gracious enough to forward me pictures of the dress from a bridal magazine. She also sent me the pictures from J.Crew’s website. They are featured below.

    I am so happy to hear that there is a Daphne dress out there still…that may fit me without dramatic alteration~! How much are you selling this dress for and do you have pictures? Thanks!

    I actually found a pattern that I love that is similar to this dress. The top is lace (but obviously could be done in the same fabric as the rest), and the skirt is a bit fuller, but I love it, and its a much easier to find alternative to the wonderful beautiful Daphne gown. Take a look!

    I also am not convinced of the cummerbund/waistband look in this pattern, but that’s the beauty of a custom-made dress by you or someone else!

    Happy New Year! Sorry for my late reply – the holidays got the best of me these past few weeks :) .

    I am asking $1200 for the dress as it is in perfect condition and I spent a good deal of money getting it hand cleaned.

    Still interested? Natalie, since you were the first to reply, I’d give preference to you. Please let me know.

    Thanks everyone! I’m glad I’ll be able to pass this dress onto someone else. I, myself, found it on Ebay back in April (thanks to a posting on this site) and I want someone else to enjoy the dress as much as I did!

    Thank you so much for your consideration!! Today i found my receipt from my original dress i bought on a whim. Unfortunately, my dress is apparently non-returnable! Even though the lady told me i could return it! I hope someone else is able to enjoy this dress! Thanks again!

    I’m looking for one. I’m a size 00 or 0. I’m very small (4′9”).

    Hi Makiko,

    I still have the dress and can send you some photos of it sometime this week. The dress is a size 2 and the bust is around a 35, so, yes, you’ll need to take in in there. I only had the dress hemmed so it should be easy for you to take in.
    As I said, I will post the photos this week.

    I was finally able to take some photos. I did find one very small stain on the bottom and I took a photo of it. So, because of that, I’m willing to negotiate the price.

      I have a brand new Daphne gown in a size 4!! It’s never been worn, still in the original J.Crew box. I’m asking $1200 plus S/H (this is what I paid for it myself here on J.Crewaholics back in May). Please let me know if you’re interested.

      Hi Rits,

      I have the Daphne gown is a size 4. I’m a size 2 and would have had it altered to fit so that’s an option for you. It’s brand new with tags. I found a different J. Crew dress that I loved even more so I have to let go of my Daphne. Please let me know if you’re interested.

    I have a size 2 JCrew Daphne wedding dress which I will be selling after my wedding in August 2011. Just an FYI—I'm usually a size 4 JCrew and the 2 fits me perfectly. A little far in advance, but I would be willing to reserve it for anyone who knows they will need it. It is really a gorgeous dress and incredibly comfortable. aph 2 np @ virginia dot edu

    I also used the Daphne dress as an inspiration for my wedding dress.
    My friend sewed it, my grandma crocheted the collar, and it was perfect for me!!!
    I am really happy I chosed this dress: quite simple but elegance, classic but pretty, and in the same time it was comfortable: I was able to move, dance etc.
